Whether you are a stay-at-home mom like myself or a full-time working momma…sometimes we need a reminder on what we need to do for ourselves. I will give you a perfect example…my fiancé had to go out and run errands, after he got back I was planning to leave to run errands as well. While he was gone and the kid and dog were occupied I finally decided to wash my hair. Mommas lets keep it real, after we get our hair done and it runs its course sometimes we still don’t want to part with it so we leave it and just keep putting it in ponytails or half dos. Back to what I was saying…so I’m dressed (not in leggings) and have my curly hair out, no bun, no ponytail. My fiancé comes in and sees me and compliments me in the sweetest way, and then adds no ponytail I like it! Haha!!! I can’t even be mad at that comment because it was happening for the longest.
That was a reminder and a subtle way to let me know that he loves when I switch it up, and actually showcase my hair in more than one go-to mom styles. I get it, I really do. Sometimes I just get into these bun up or ponytail moments and can’t stop it!!! I know I am not the only momma that does it, and I know a lot of women in general do it too. While some might get upset or feel some type of way type of way for being called out on getting so comfortable in one look…I actually took it in a positive way, accepted the compliment and even acknowledged to myself that I could do better.
There are a few ways I look at this example:
- Hey girl…you letting yourself go little, time to zone in and give yourself a self-care day
- Baby I love you no matter what you look like…and when you change it up that makes me excited
- You doing ok girl? You need some alone time to recenter?
At the end of the day I know I am going to have my good days and bad days just like anyone else. Something I try to keep in my mind is that no matter what’s happening or going on around me, it’s not the action but my reaction to it that’s important, and this reminder to take care of myself is no different. To be honest, I definitely want my soon-to-be husband to be proud and happy of the way I am looking, and I want to give him a reason to smile!!! He busts his butt every day to hold down and make sure we have the necessities we need, so why would I not?!
Tell me mommas, what are some reminders you have taken in a positive way?
