How To Bounce Back After Taking A Break

Being a stay-at-home mom may seem like a breeze to an outsider that goes to a 9-5 everyday but it’s not. There really has to be focus, structure and discipline. There has to be willpower, courage, awareness and confidence. Just because someone isn’t sitting behind a desk doesn’t mean there’s no work to do, it doesn’t mean there’s no tasks to tackle or challenges to face.

This past year has had highs and lows making it extra challenging. Lows with the constant navigation through covid times, and highs with planning a wedding with my best friend and world. I was consistent with blog posts and posting on my social media pages with my mom blog, but the planning took over and everything else took a back seat. Now that the wedding day bliss has come and gone, our reality of getting back into the groove of what we were doing before the big day has been a challenge in itself! Sometimes I wonder if I’m the only one that internalizes so much that it hinders more than it helps. There’s been so much outside noise and activity it distracts my inner peace and makes me too weak to do anything.

And for reasons like that, sitting down and channeling my inner writer self has been tough. I don’t personally like to force thoughts or ideas. I love for something to just flow without struggle. For my husband, getting back to in person meetings has been tough. Wanting to be at home with our family has been everything for not just him, but for myself and our son. Bouncing back can affect the entire household in different ways.

The question I began asking myself was how to I get back into the groove? How can I bounce back from taking a bit of a long hiatus? I don’t like that it’s been so long since my last blog post! I needed to figure it out, and I needed to figure it out soon. I didn’t want to become stuck in a rut that would take me even longer to dig out of. I want to get back to a regular routine so my wheels started turning. What is going to help me? These are some things I am practicing to help me bounce back.

  1. Stop & breathe – Easier said than done sometimes, but sometimes I need to remind myself. I tend to let stressful moments take over occasionally and to help eliminate that I just stop and breathe.
  2. Express Yo-self – Not every challenge needs a solution right away, sometimes it just needs an outlet. Getting out my frustration or challenge by venting can be the best way for me to move past it.
  3. Make a list – I am visual so having a planner and looking at at daily to-do list definitely puts me in a better position to be productive.
  4. Look up tips – Sometimes I just google random stuff. But there are other times I google things that can help me succeed and be more productive. I love stumbling on other mom blogs that have tips I would have never thought of!
  5. Post-It! – I love colorful post-it notes. Something about having them with reminders and messages is just satisfying…so occasionally I will use them to give myself reminders and words of encouragement to push through the road blocks.
