Managing The Loneliness of Being A SAHM

Managing The Loneliness of Being A SAHM

by Guest Blogger Momma Rene Goodman

I have been SAHM for almost 8 years. There are so many rewarding aspects of it that no one really addresses the loneliness. Do not get me wrong I feel super blessed to be able to stay home with my kids. But a lot of time is spent with kids, doing kid things, being alone with kids and all things that have to do with kids. That leaves me with no adult interaction all day. My husband works extremely hard to give me the ability to stay home but all in all it gets lonely. Friends are hard to come by because they don’t understand how emotionally draining it can be to just be home all day.

To help combat the loneliness I have found a great app call Peanut! It’s basically Tinder (HAHA) for moms. You can swipe to find moms that fit your needs. Lots of stay-at-home moms in your area, with kids the same age as yours, into the same stuff as you! Since relocating from Las Vegas to Canton, GA I had to find ways to make friends. Not only for me but for my kids as well. The outcome was great! Long story short I found a handful of SAHM’s to engage with and to help with the emotional aspects of being lonely.

Other great ways to combat being lonely are to Find a hobby, I play a lot of video games. I also started a YouTube channel for my kids The Cash and Kane Show (Please go check them out!) Doing YouTube I found a skill I didn’t know I had…..video editing! Now I spend lots of time learning editing stuff and filming the kids doing fun activities.

All in all you can’t fully escape having the lonely feeling from time to time. Just remember, they won’t be little forever and to soak up as much time with them as you can. And don’t forget to have your own life as well. One day they will be grown and moved out.
